Education
The Fond du Lac Chapter, NSDAR, members are passionate about the education of America’s youth and literacy across the community. It is an annual objective to promote Constitution Week and other significant historic events within the community. Volunteers also support literacy needs in the community through book drives, tutoring, and maintaining Little Free Libraries.

Annually the DAR Good Citizens Award and American History Essay Contests have been a cornerstone for the chapter’s involvement in recognizing youth.

DAR Good Citizens Program & Awards
The DAR Good Citizens Program and Scholarship Contest is open to high school seniors who exhibit the qualities of Dependability, Service, Leadership, and Patriotism.
​
Each of 17 local schools, using a method of its choice, chooses one student per year to be recognized as their DAR Good Citizen. That student receives a pin and certificate. Additional awards are available as school winners advance for Chapter, State, and National awards.

American History Essay Contests
Each year, the Fond du Lac Chapter, NSDAR, offers students in grades five through eight a chance to participate in the American History Essay Contest. Students in grades 9 through 12 are encouraged to enter the DAR Patriots Essay Contest.

State and local winners receive medals and certificates. National winners receive a monetary award in addition to a medal and certificate.
​
Essay contest application windows are open from September - December each year.

Outstanding American History Teacher Award
The Outstanding Teacher of American History Contest honors notable full-time teachers of history (and related fields such as social studies, government, and citizenship education) in public, private, and parochial schools, grades 5-12. These teachers have demonstrated excellence in readily sharing an incisive knowledge of American History, demonstrating a commitment to their students, fostering a spirit of patriotism and loyal support of our country, relating history to modern life and events, and requiring high academic standards at all times from their students.

Constitution Week
Constitution Week is 17-23 September and has been celebrated annually since its inception in 1956.

During Constitution Week, we aim to:

Emphasize citizens' responsibilities for protecting and defending the Constitution.

Inform people that the Constitution is the basis for America's great heritage and the foundation for our way of life.

Encourage the study of the historical events which led to the framing of the Constitution in September 1787.
