Membership
Any woman 18 years or older who can prove lineal, bloodline descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence is eligible to join the DAR. She must provide documentation for each statement of birth, marriage and death, as well as of the Revolutionary War service of her Patriot ancestor.
DAR volunteers in chapters throughout the country can provide guidance and assistance with the application process. Admission to membership in the National Society is through a chapter or as a Member-At-Large.
A Daughter who is between the ages of 18-35 is a Junior member. Juniors are full members who can hold leadership positions when eligible and hold special volunteer positions of significance at state and national conventions.
You do not need to live in Fond du Lac County to be a member of Fond du Lac Chapter, NSDAR. Many of our members are able to contribute and participate remotely as they live out of state. Members are also able to participate in the chapter activities through an associate membership, even though their primary membership may be with another chapter.
For membership eligibility, questions or assistance with an application, contact the membership chair using this form.
You can also inquire directly with the National Society on the How to Join page.
Chapter Patriots
Many of the Daughters in our chapter are descended have roots that run deep into America's colonial history, but each daughter must prove direct lineage to a Patriot who has proven service that contributed to American independence.
The term “Patriot” includes not only those who served in the army, navy, or militia but also those men and women who provided funds, food, livestock, shelter, medical attention, or in any way furthered the cause of American independence.
Since the Fond du Lac Chapter, NSDAR, was established in 1900, our members have documented their lineage to over 150 Revolutionary War Patriots. Our organizing regent, Virginia Tallmadge Foulkes, was a direct descendent of William Floyd, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. And two of our earliest members were Real Daughters, i.e., their fathers were Patriots.
Our current membership is proud of our over 45 ancestors who fought for freedom and the establishment of the United States of America. Our Patriots came from 10 of the original 13 colonies: Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina and Virginia. These Patriots served in various capacities during the American Revolution, each as important to the cause, ranging from military service to patriot service.
Through continued ancestor research and new members, the list of Patriots grows each year. If you are curious to know if you have a Patriot ancestor, please access the Ancestor Search page or contact us for more information.
